It wouldn't hurt. Just wipe it off with a rag before and after sanding so you can see everything clearly. Make sure to clean it very well after sanding to get all the dust off. I just went to Napa and got some cheapo spray paint and it came out sweet.

After you get all the rubber replaced take off your tire rack and give it a good coat of black spray paint . Really dresses it up and makes it look nice.

If i remember correctly there is 2 styles of driveshaft in bronco2s. My haynes manual has both in it, although I can't find it .

Depends on your budget and how much you would use it. Example trail rig or daily driver. Might as well spend some money on a good one instead of replacing it. Go with a Warn if you have the money.

Check to see that all your connections are sound and that it's getting good ground.

To add on to what TJ said, check all your connections and see if there is moisture in the distributor cap.

The linkage for the tailgate handle probably came off.. Same thing happened to me. The linkage fits into a hole inside the tailgate, and when connected the handle shouldn't spin. Go to an auto parts store and see if you can get a new striker with new rubber on it. It vibrates a lot since the lock doesn't fasten down on it enough with crappy rubber. (Picture # 2 and 3)
