Hey Matt, or anyone who retained their 7.5 ford (w/ a 5.0 swap), how did you connect the the drivetrain to it? Bastard joint, yoke change (to what)?? I am trying to figure out how to best connect. I want to keep the 7.5 for now until a later time when I can swap to something bigger.

have you thought about using the FS rear?

Ya before I decided to cut down the d44.... Now it would look kinda funny with fs rear and eb sized front

My thinking was to keep the rear 7.5 w/4.56 and detroit until a good eb sized 9" or 8.8" came along.

I had an exploder shaft cut down. The flange bolts right up to the 7.5"

I used a 97 f150 rear driveshaft and a conversion ujoint. Then I swapped out for an 8.8 and ditched the conversion joint. It worked fine when I had it in tho.

I used a flange off of a CV style drive shaft for the T-case (cause mine was an 85') and found 2 ends that would bolt to them. The ends that worked for me were off of a 77' lincoln 9 inch rear. They used a larger u-joint that ended up being the same size as half ton chev truck front driveline that I had laying around. I shortened the driveline to fit and did not blow a U-joint on the rig ever since. :D

btw, the 7.5 uses the same axles as the 28 spline ranger 8.8, and I had the 7.5 behind 351w's and 396w's doing hard launches on pavement at trips to the drag strip with no breakage other than blown cluster gears in the tranny.... A 7.5 will hold a 302 fine as long as you dont go over a 35" tire w/ locker. A 31 spline 8.8 will be stronger than a stock 9" but i think you will not need it....unless you like to be safe. :hmmm:

That's funny  , I have dumped the clutch on dry pavement and exploded my 7.5. I have even been on wet rocks and gravel and wrecked axles and bearing caps.

what size tire? I was only running 235/75/15s which put alot less stress on the diff than bigger tires. Also if my tranny hadent gone out its possible that the diff would have gone instead. But if you brake a 7.5 shaft, a 28 spline 8.8 would have gone too because they are the exact same shaft. Sounds like you need an explorer 31 spline or a d60.

Well, I only have 33s so they arent that big. I also dont lay in awn on the gas, so breakage should be minimal. If I start to break stuff, I will upgrade to a 9" or d60.

I need to finish my d44 front, then drop in the 5.0 then deal with the rear. It sounds like the converrsion ujoint is going to be easist....

I was running a P78-15's ((34X11.50-15) Buckshots. I just decided not to do dry pavement burnouts anymore. I upgraded to a 9-inch instead we'll see how long it will last. :redneck:

ya i gotta say i dont like the 7.5 to much..its cost me way to much. first i broke the spyder gears, then i welded the gears together and broke and axle. then i was given a detroit locker and a new axle shaft. now my 7.5 is worth nothing but something to keep the rig off the ground. destroyed the gears, broke driver axle shaft, twisted passenger axle shaft and broke my detroit locker in the process. i ditched it and now have a 59.25" 8" axle. all this was done with a mild 2.8 btw :wtf:
