Working on my 84 bronco II 4x4 with automatic hubs.

I am trying to reassemble; I am stuck on the cam assembly piece. I am having trouble getting the cam to slide onto the spindle:

I have lined up the center of the spline keyway with the closest hole/slot on the bearing adjusting nut and then I try to slide the cam assembly with it's little slot into the above mentioned spot.

any ideas?

If it jams, force it.
If it breaks, it needed replacing.

wishi could help, but other than tearing the axle apart in a extremly crude way i have never worked one these hubs.
