on-board air

i'm converting my a/c pump to air compressor, nothing new, any tips? i have an auto air tool oiler to lube the pump, getting a pressure switch, and a toggle switch, pressure blow off valve and trying to decide on a tank. also an idea i had was to use a cable that i could put under the hood to hold my throttle up for faster pressure build up.. comments please

that oiler you have, by chance did it come with a regulator and filter as well you just took them apart?

yes it did it is a 2 piece unit from harbor freight that is held together to look like 1 piece the regulator blew apart on me so I took it a part and threaded the inside hole to use it for my on board air

yes I had to thread it because where the regulator and oiler meet the holes are not threaded they make the seal by using a "O" ring. there is a band in the middle with a couple of bolts if you pull the bolts and then the band or mount they will seperate and then you gotta use a 3/8 NPT tap or maybe a 1/4" NPT tap it has been awhile since I did it. I am not to impressed with this particular oiler it doesn't work all that well it says adjustable but that is a joke , but i guess it works ok cause my pump has not burned up yet. When I wired mine up I just use the a/c button but the problem with doing that is when you select defrost it turns the pump on I am not sure why but I do know others have had the same problem. I would set a fuse and a switch so it is not affected by turning the defrost off. I plan on re-wireing my system, WHen I do this I plan on putting an led in the dash so that it lights up when the pump is on.

thats because of the evaporator in the a/c system. it turns on to get the moisture out when the defrosters turn on. you will have to wire your own button or switch to remidy that.
