Explorer TTB

My son and I bought a 3.73 posi 8.8 from an Explorer today at our local
Pull-a-Part for $86.00 !
The Explorer 8.8 is about 3" wider than the B2s 7.5. We thought about cutting the housing down and using the B2 axles or maybe even welding nine inch style ends on the 8.8 and eliminate the C-clips all together. Now we are thinking gaining 1-1/2" per side will be ok if I can get the front with to match.

I am wondering if the front TTB from the Explorer will bolt
up under the B2 ?

Yes sir the Exp will slip in. The explorer is a Dana 35. The B2 is a dana 28. I think ya gotta do something with the front driveshaft but the exploder Dana 35 into the B2 is verry common.

Hello Tek. So the Explorer mounting holes to spring pocket dimensions
in the front are the same from B2 to Explorer ?
What did you mean about the drive line ?
I grabbed the rear drive line when we bought the 8.8 they only charged
$12.00 for it.
I will have to make some changes to the spring, shock and sway bar mounts on the 8.8 its a completely different lashup.

Thanks

The d35 is a direct bolt in, but the front driveshaft will need to be shortened, the 35 carrier is bigger than the 28.

All right ! I was hoping that would be the case. One more thing,
was there a posi/limited slip front from the factory ?
I doubt it but its worth asking.

if there was, they are rare. you can get them from any aftermarket company though, since the d35 is very common in heeps.

You can pull a factory l/s carrier from a XJ rear d35 and use it in your front d35. Thats usually the cheapest way to get it.

You have a T18 mated to a 1356 in your Bronco ? Is the 1356 strong enough to handle V8 torque ? Hmmm, I am just learning what transmissions and transfercases will work together. At least which combos
make sense.

1356 came stock behind T18's in the late 80's. You can bolt any 31 spline 6 bolt full size transfer case up to a T18/T19/Np435/M5ODR2/ZF, etc. 1356s came behind 7.5s and PSD's so they can more than handle a puny 5.0. They are a reeeally tight fit in a ranger/b2 though. A np208 or np205 would be a better way to go if you care about fitment.

Ok, I was confused, I was thinking the 1356 was the B2 transfercase.

Thats the bw1350. A 208 will fit much better than a 1356, and depending on how you cock the motor over you dont have to touch the frame.

I owned a 1982 full size Bronco in the late 80s it had a C6, and aluminum transfer case. I think it was a 208 ? Did that same transfer case bolt up to a 435NP ?
The reason I ask is, there are several junker full sized Broncos around this area. I think I could probably get a decent deal on one of them and my son wants to use a 435NP we already have.
