Ever done an inline six swap, will it fit?

Post by Godzilla9992 »

Hey I've got an old 250 inline six that came out of my '70 maverick, ran great with loads of low end torque, has anyone ever tried to put one of these in BII, do you think it could work? also would the bellhousing be the same so i could keep the stock transmission, t-case, drive-shafts,etc.

Alright i figured out the 250 will not bolt up to the stock 5-speed so i'm planning on putting the old c4 tranny that came out of the mav in with the 250, does anyone know if the stock transfercase will bolt up to a c4?

NO. the only tcase that will bolt up to a C4 is a D20(the Maverick C4 isnt a 4x4 one)you need a C5 tranny(4x4 one) or the output shaft and adapter from C5 or spent BIG $$$$$ at Advance Adapters

so are you saying that a c5 will bolt up to the stock transfer case, cause that would be great

Not yet, I'm just checkin out all the possibilities right now, i've found a 98 explorer 4.0 i'm thinking about buying for $350, but i have to give the shell back when i've robbbed everything i need. Its a complete vehicle, transmission was busted while driving by the previous owner, so its now in a junk yard. So new questions...

1. Will the ECM/wiring harness out of the 98 explorer 4.0 A.T. work in a 90 BII 5-speed setup.
2. As far as i can tell, the 4.0 OHV engine just swaps right in, Correct?
3. ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?????

If this is as easy a swap as i think, i'd like to get started soon, so please post on this!!!

P.S. I'm just estimating, wouldn't you say this is more economical than the 250/c5 swap?

i would rather do the 250 swap. everyone does a 4.0 swap. to be a plug in 4.0 swap, fine a 90 ranger 4.0 and get the wiring harness

In another time and place i would love to do the 250 swap, specially cause i know the engine is such a good one, but right now times are hard and i'm broke :usa: . i need something strong and dependable to drive(all i have is the maverick right now-13mpg).... and i do love fuel injection on my off road toys.

But will the 98 harness not work. I've looked all through the yards and this was the only 4.0 setup i've found that wasn't already robbed or ruined.
