how much have YOU towed with your bII?

hey guys. thinking of doing some recreational towing with the bII. i wanted to ask how others have fared while towing. i have a 'sport' rear bumper (two tube wraparound rear bumper), and probably won't use the bumper hitch due to ball height. that said, a hidden hitch, or reese style unit with square receiver will be used...or purchased to use as a template while one is made...and then returned to wal-mart.

how much have you towed? i haven't bought a "toy" yet, but what about; a tent trailer (weight up to 1000lbs, tongue up to 200 lbs), a boler camper, (up to 1250 lbs, 250 lbs tongue), or a 12-17 ft travel trailer (1500 - 2500 lbs, up to 400 lbs tongue). i have a stock 2.9, and (at least i will when towing) run stock sized tires, and have a manual five speed. we are also thinking of a teardrop trailer - not more than you need, and lightweight, under a thousand lbs.

how is the bii with a heavy load behind it - ever tow with it on gravel / washboard??

decided to get a toy to pull with the bronco...not the wife's focus wagon...with a measly 800 lb towing capacity.

I've towed a few jeeps and chevys

A friend used to tow his ski boat with is BII all the time. Seemed to do ok. I wouldn't tow anything too heavy though, especially with oversized tires. I've had my brakes fade without towing anything.

I've been towing my utility trailer with no problem. The first trailer I had was one of the folding types that weigh 250 lbs. plus I had a treated floor on it, so it might have weighed 350 lbs. I could still pick up the back end by my self. I hauled a 550 lbs. John Deere on it easily. I upgraded to a bigger trailer with a zero turn on it and had no problems. The zero turn weighs 850 plus the trailer(600). I recently towed one of the "boom-lifts" that home depot rents. I'm not sure of the weight but probably more than my trailer. It pulled it fine but did get to about 230 degrees a couple of times on some hills. A couple of times the boom got to wagging its tail but I slowed down to keep it under control. They are very long wheelbased. I would have used my other truck if it had been raining cause the bronco II being short wheelbase might be a little tricky on wet roads. Watch the tongue weight to keep some weight on the front too!! I needed the 4x4 and rear locker cause I took the boom on some hills in a yard that my other truck would have gotten stuck on. Other than the shortwheel base issues you should be fine. You want to watch tail wagging for sure. I've not tryed gravel roads but with a rear locker it would be ok I would think. Most of my loads have been pretty light(100) on tongue weight except the "boom-lift" which was an animal. It lowered the tail end a couple 3 inches for sure. I couldn't even pick the nose up on the boom, but I didn't have a choice on it. I was just really careful and plenty of stopping room. I have a stock 2.8 with no mods at all except 235r/15 real aggresive tires. Stock tires would have helped some with the pulling for sure

towed a 1800 pound car trailer once with my lifted bronco II. Only did it down the high way for a couple miles but wouldnt do it with much more then that.

Had to pull an S10 blazer out of a mud hole and up a steep hill but I did a 4.0 swap and was in 4Lo.

had to get a combine out the field stuck in a sink hole the other day ... lost 3 tow straps .... LOL but the 4 low still works great .... LOL makes me wonder why everyone wants the D35 swap .....LOL..... and thats with the throw out bearing squalling ........ was trying to finish it off .....LOL......but its still pulling ......

yeah, that's right by where I live. Pretty funny. Last I heard, I they brought in the big toys and have recovered one of them.
