Re: transmission trouble

the weird thing is that it didn't give my any trouble before this. It wasn't slipping, or whining or anything.

transmission trouble

I was just driving along one day and all of a sudden my engine revs up high and I start coasting to a stop, like when a manual transmission pops out of gear. If I try to shift to reverse, drive, overdrive, or low gear I don't feel the transmission engage at all and stepping on the gas just revs the ...

AC fan stopped working

The fan just stopped working for the heater and AC. I check the fuses for the blower motor and air conditioning switches, and they are both good. Is this usually just a bad blower motor that needs replacing?

problem with my auto locking hubs?

I was replacing brake pads and thought I'd inspect the hub. I pulled it off and it looks like everything but the cam assembly came off with it. Is this a problem? I'm attaching a pic. Thanks.

The first thing I would do is check to see if you have any codes and go from there. I had that same thing happen to me once and it turned out to be the idle air control valve.

I checked the codes and I got a code 33, which is the EGR valve. Could this be causing my problem?

having a slight problem

When I start my truck first thing in the morning, put it in drive and give it gas, the engine almost dies. after that it runs fine for 20 miles on my way to work. Also, sometimes I have to give it a little gas or it won't start. Could this mean a bad fuel pressure regulator? The truck is an 86, 2.9L ...

oil and tranny fluid coolers

I'm thinking about getting an oil cooler and a better than stock tranny fluid cooler. Does anyone have any advice? I've got a catalog from perma-cool. Has anyone used them?

So If I were to upgrade to an 80A alternator, should also change the wiring and the voltage regulator? Thanks.

help with alternators

I have and 86, 2.9l v6 4x4 AT and Autozone.com lists alternators that are 40, 65, and 80 amps. How can I tell how many amps my alternator is putting out? Thanks.

leaking transmission fluid

I seem to be leaking some transmission fluid out of a hole on the drivers side of the tranny(a4ld). Is that the shift shaft oil seal? How big of a job is it to replace that seal?

please help identify this engine part

Can anyone please tell me what this part is? I also notice that there is a grounding wire that is not connected. Should it be grounded? (I would think so)

converting from cv driveshaft to u-joint style

my original cv driveshaft is 31" long, flange to flange. My new u-joint drive shaft goes from about 30" to 33". Will this work? Can I just unbolt the old one and bolt in the new one? Is there anything else I should watch out for? Thanks.

[quote="Bob Myers"]Not sure the pump would make a slapping noise. I don't think it can if you are sitting still when you move from forward to reverse gears. My thoughts would be with Joel, If you hammer on the throttle from a dead takeoff does it vibrate a bit and smooth out just before it goes to ...
