having a slight problem

Post by nrandell »

When I start my truck first thing in the morning, put it in drive and give it gas, the engine almost dies. after that it runs fine for 20 miles on my way to work. Also, sometimes I have to give it a little gas or it won't start. Could this mean a bad fuel pressure regulator? The truck is an 86, 2.9L fuel injection, A4LD, 4x4.

I checked the codes and I got a code 33, which is the EGR valve. Could this be causing my problem?

It does sound like it is the prob. When an EGR goes bad (whether it is stuck or the diaphragm is cracked), it will give you the symptoms of a huge vacuum leak. Which is apparent in the lower rpm's. Your rig will run in the higher rpm's because that is when the EGR opens.
