ONE TOUCH 4X4 SHIFT PROBLEMS

Post by RH31379 »

I HAVE AN 88 BII. WHICH WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE.
THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE DONE:
1. THERE WERE SEVER BROKEN WIRES THAT HAVE BEEN CLEANED AND RE CONNECTED.
2. THE MOTOR HAS BEEN BENCH TESTED AND WHEN 12V IS GIVEN TO THE YELLOW OR ORANGE WIRES WITHE THE OTHER BEING GROUNDED THE MOTOR WILL TURN AND CONTINUITY CAN BE READ THROUGH ALL OF THE OTHER LEADS AT VARIOUS POINTS....SO I BELIEVE THE MOTOR IS GOOD
3. THE 4X4 LIGHT IS ON AND THE LOW RANGE WILL FLASH UNTIL THE TRANNY IS PUT IN NEUTRAL (AUTOMATIC) THEN GO SOLID BUT THE MOTOR DOES NOT TURN AND I CAN NOT GET THE 4 X 4 LIGHT OFF.

PLEASE HELP WITH ANY SUGGESTIONS..I AM REALLY STUCK.

ALSO ANYONE KNOW WHAT THAT RESET BUTTON DOES ON THE MODULE IN THE DASH? OR IS THERE A SERIES OF EVENT TO RE PROGRAME THE BOARD???

I CAN HEAR RELAYS CLICK BUT NOTHNG IS MOVING.
ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATEL, I AM BEGINNING TO GET FED UP WITH THIS, WHAT HAPPEND TOT HE STICK IN THE FLOOR!!

THANKS
RAY

The stick in the floor started to disappear when soccer moms and yuppy dads didn't want to get dirty to use the four wheel drive. That is why most new rigs have a auto-trac of some sort cause people ain't smart enough or take the time to learn how to drive. :hmmm: You may have to check inside the case to see if the chain is not broken or a shifting fork is bent thus not allowing the four wheel engagement. If you have a chance I would get rid of it all together and put the floor shift in. We watched a full size ford with automatic everything get stuck on top of Mt. Pilchuck last night cause nothing would engage and he refused to let air out of the tires. That stuff wasn't made for that.
EBSteve just likes to watch me break things.:-)
420HP and 775Ft lbs Now it is time to break things.

you can find one im sure for pretty cheap (transfer case 1350 I think) that will swap right in. I never had any problems with mine (manual not automatic).

But if you are hellbent on saving your current auto, then its hard to say. The relays (the clicking) might be bad, or a small section of wiring was missed and bad or there is something physically stopping the internals from engaging. Its hard to say without being there and seeing what its doing and not doing.

the transfer case shifts fine. i can shift it in and out of four wheel drive with with a pair of pliers if i take the motor off. the motor won't spin using the controls when it is not mounted to the back of the transfer case. i am starting to think it is the module in the dash.

It very well coud be the module in the dash. I have an 86 BII that the module is bad.
Can't think of anything witty, intelligent, or cool to say...guess I'm just stupid.
