Tranny Xmember

Post by plowboy »

Will my 85 BII tranny crossmember work on my 86 Ranger? Both have the same automatic trans. The ranger crossmember mounts outside the frame, while the BII mounts inside the frame. If the frames are the same width, can I just drill the holes for the BII xmember in the ranger frame?

My ranger trans is trashed. My BII motor let go. I need a driver, while working on another BII motor. So my hopes are to put the BII tranny in the ranger. I had to cut the ranger crossmember off because the bolts were rust welded into the bushings. The yards want $50 freakin bucks for a cross member. Any suggestions would help.
Can't think of anything witty, intelligent, or cool to say...guess I'm just stupid.

some one might want to double check me on this but you should be able to use the stock cross member unless something is wrong with it. if its the same tranny it should just bolt right in. I don't see a reason why you couldn't swap the cross members but I would just try to use all the original stuff if you could.
71 Bronco - twin sticked, full width, 2" lift, wristed arm, lots of rust...
