Explorer Susp. under a B2

I just recently purchased my first vehicle which just happens to be a 1986 Bronco II. The guy I bought it from siad something about using the leafs and coils from an early model Explorer to lift it slightly and give it a stiffer ride. If there is any truth to this please let me know.

the answer is yes, this will work and will lift your BII about 1.5-2", however, there are some tricks you will need to do if i am to understand this correctly, on the leafs you will need the Ex. bolts to reuse, not the BII bolts (or vise versa) or something like that......it has to do with the size of the eyelets or taper on the bolts or something, sorry to sound so vague but i am not really familiar with this process, but have heared of it being done with some kind of mods along these lines.

Will this only work with the leafs, or can I swap out the front susp. too? Also, do you know what year explorer is compatible?

as far as the explorer springs go they will give you 0" of lift the reason they sit hoigher in an explorer is because the perches are mounted on the bottom of the frame rail where as the BII are mounted 2.5" up the side they will however remove the sag in your current setup(almost all BII's sag quite a bit) so id still recomend the explorer springs.
as far as coils go I dont know

Awesome, I have one other question though. What is the minimal amout of lift that I will need to clear a set of 31x10.5's. I would be willing to cut out a little fender. maybe 1-1.5"

2 inch lift will clear them possibly with minor fender cutting and 3 inch will clear them without trimming.
Do the whole front suspension!!!

You can actually swap the whole front suspension -beams, diffy, springs etc and then you will have a real durable front drivetrain. Works real well with a 4" lift at the same time. (see my post in chit chat)
An 8.8 from a new generation Ranger would probably swap in easier than my Explorer axle but it might not have the heavier duty 31 spline axles. I wanted the extra width as well so it worked well for me but if you don't have a torch and welder at your disposal you would be wise to check the width of the perches and mounts for exact compatibility.
