5.0 Starter Bypass

Post by Dreded »

ok im having a little bit of trouble getting my truck to start with the key anyone know all the places you need to bypass to make the key work.

It was a manual tranny now its auto so I have been pushing in the clutch still If I do that I dont need to worry bout the neutral on tranny do I? I cant remember if clutch had to be in and tranny in neutral or just one or the other, its a 1990 BII.

Also on a side note as far as the fuel pump goes what did you 5.0 guys do to wire it in? I was just going to use a relay that im not using anymore find a Hot wire when key is in "On" position wire and hook it straight into the harness that goes down to the pump. Wondering if you all did the same or if there is a way to hook the stock harness back up to save the safety stuff.

The little orange or red wire going to the solenoid is the hot wire. This engages the solenoid to send current to the starter. I would check to see if you get 12 volts though that wire. You can use a screw driver to jump from the battery side of the solenoid to the terminal that you pulled the wire from and this should trigger the starter. It will spark a little so cover your battery with a mat if you are afraid of a battery explosion.

as far as the fuel goes there is a pink and black wire that goes from the big cluster of wires at the fire wall on the driverside back under the body to the rear of the truck. that is power to the fuel pump. wire that to positive and the pump will kick on. as far as how you will connect the fuel lines to the 5.0L fuel rail I am not sure what lines you will need to get. might want to check into some exploder lines that has a 5.0L in it.
