Well as im sure you have noticed im re-doing the 5.0L and this time 4wd would be nice last time I never got around to finding a transfer case.

I made a trip to Pick-A-Part and they have two f250's with 5spd and t-case in them now this would be perfect as from Pick-A-Part Tranny's are $85 cdn and T-Case is $79 cdn both trucks seem to shift good to the feel.

the only thing is 1 truck is a 5.0L wich im sure will fit no problem the other truck is a diesel so im wondering will the diesel one have the same bell housing as the 5.0L does? im not positive on the size of the diesel and does anyone know other differences in these two trucks as far as the driveline goes?

Oh yea the trucks are early 90';s not positive but id say '90-'92 area

Chances are by the time i get back to pick-a-part the one from the 5.0L will be gone thats why im asking

If those are ZF-5 speeds, they are very decent trannys. Low 1st and overdrive.

I'm not sure which applications work with the 5.0L, but I found this on classicbroncos.com. I don't believe the bellhousings are removable, so I don't see how a ZF from a 460 would work.

The ZF S5-42 (and -47) were actually factory equipment in a number of Ford heavy-duty trucks for a few years - they were installed in 2wd and 4wd '87-'95 F250 HD’s, 350’s, and 450’s behind Windsor blocks (so it’ll bolt right up to the 289, 302, or 351W in your Bronco), 460’s, and diesels. The units installed behind 351W's even have the same 1 1/16" 10-spline input shaft as an EB's 3 speed, so you can re-use your stock clutch. It's a large unit, but does fit into an Early Bronco with just a little trimming here and there (a body lift helps a lot). It’s pretty similar to a NV4550 in both gear ratios, size, and torque capacity

the 5.0 has a mazda m5od-r2 behind it, which are junk if you are going to run big tires at all. The diesel is a ZF which does not have the same pattern as the 5.0. Small block ZFs only came behind 351s cause the 351 puts out more torque than the m5r2 can safley handle. They are hard to find and expensive, I have seen people pay 1,200 for them used out of junkyards. You can try the mazda, but be warned that its on the weak side, but at least they are laying all over and easy to find. You get an idea of the strength differences between the m5r2 and ZF here:
