I just had the flex plate blow in my 86 B2. How common is this problem?

The flex plate replaces the flywheel in an automatic transmission.

i know a flywheel is for a std tranny,flex plate is for a auto.
i never heard of a FLEX plate blowing on a 2.9.. got pics

that happened to my 88 bll it broke around the bolt holes for the crank. Im not sure why and the tranny shop couldnt figure out why it did it either
