Trying to get a Bronco II back to life

Post by charles »

Good morning. new member posting in so I hope this is the correct location.

Many, Many questions I need help with.

As the title states, I've got a 1987 Bronco II 2.9L EFI 4X4 that I'm trying to get going.

The body is in excellent shape, the previous owner though really road it hard and parked it for some time.
I couldn't get it to turn over, so I removed the tank, cleaned it up, reinstalled, changed the fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, and got it to fire right up. It runs rough, as expected, and I don't leave it running long, but what I've found is a few vaccumm lines broke. I rerouted them to where I thought they went by looking at my 1988 Ford Ranger, also a 2.9L EFI 4X4. It helped but still a few problems. The Bronco II has a couple extra components that the ranger does not have, no idea what they are, so Iwas wondering if I could post some pics and maybe someone could help identify and help me with determining if what I've got routed is correct.

a few other problems. When I turn it on, I notice immediatly that exhaust comes from the engine compartment, and some gets into the cab. I cannot tell where it comes from but a majority looks like it comes from the back area of the engine passenger side. Anything I should be looking for?

The original exhaust was destroyed, right now I've got some pipes tacked onto it just for.....

I don't think that's the problem though.

The oil light flashes at low idle, and it sounds like the engine is ticking away (lifters?)

The engine has oil in it, it was changed right before the vehicle was parked. Oddly though, it seems there may be too much oil on the dip stick.

As I said, I don't leave it running long, just a minute or so while checking the lines. So could it be the oil pump? and how hard is that to change?
