is there anything I can get that will lower the hitch on the truck? Some friends said I can bolt up one of those square hitch recievers to the step that's currently there where the ball is, then just get a square hitch reciever with a 2-5 inch ball drop.

A receiver bolted on and a drop hitch is the best way to get that lowered. You could fab up your own rear bumper with built in receiver but that isnt as easy...

yea I google searched and found someone that did the welding - not my thing.

this appears to be the same size as the step bumper, it seems this should bolt right up, as long as I can find a way to get holes drilled in that step. That's some solid metal.

As long as you remember that you are still limited to what the bumper can haul you will be fine with that setup. The B2 never was a heavy hauler.

If you stick with trailers that basic size and watch your weight that should work fine..

hm ok thanks. I was worried about trailer sway since the tongue weight would be so light.

yes I'm working removing the ball hitch - it's rusted to all hell and needs to be sawed off.

I got the grade 8 bolts, washer, and lock nuts. You think just bolting it up using the 2 holes would suffice or can I put 2 more "new" holes in the receiver and mount it to the step with 4 bolts? My concern is would the tongue weight and stop/go force be on the bolts more so than spread out through the receiver and bumper/frame?.

Put the two bolts in to hold it and then have it welded to the bumper.

have somone just heat up the nut on that old hitch ball with a torch and hold the ball with a pipe wrench and use a box end wrench to take the nut off that way you dont ruin your old hitch ball instead of cutting it off

had a mechanic at my motorcycle shop use his impact gun to get that rusted ball hitch off...what a PAIN.

With the receiver bolted to the step, I can literally stand on it and bounce. Very happy with the finished product and I'm sure I'll feel better towing it knowing it's not at the kind of slant.

Since I'll be taking it on and off, should I use lock washers on the bolts?

yea I messed up one hole lol but that drill bit is fuckin awesome. I wanted to just walk around the complex and drill holes in metal shit.


I hit the receiver with some rattle can and then a coat of clear rustoleum.






very level. I have to replace the latch thing on the trailer with one that receives a 2" ball. The Reese drop hitch I bought was the only 3 1/4" drop I could find but it came with a 2" ball. No biggie - they are cheap and the one on the trailer is rust-tastic. There is a slight incline in the pic because the trailer is just resting on the ball since the size difference.



the receiver is not bolted in completely.

towed for the first time lastnight - worked flawlessly. Very pleased.
