1989 BII gas milage

Post by dragster557 »

It has the a4ld and is 4wd.I deliver mail with it so i know this is the worst gas milage i could get. It was getting consistantly 9.73 to 9.75. Now it has lost 1 mpg. Before i started the post office i put new plugs, rotor and cap.air filter, spark plug wires, pcv, put timing on 12 degrees, gutted both cats because front one was empty and back one was stopped up,put fuel injector cleaner in tank and took seafoam and took vaccum hose off injector and put it in the seafoam can and run engine till can was empty. What can i do to help it. Sorry for being long. Thanks

Yikes!!! I get 19MPG with a 320k motor. Do you have big tires? Have you checked your compression? Running with the E-Brake on? hahaha. Pull your fuel Reg hose off while running and see if it leaks fuel.

I know you are delivering mail but I have consistantly gotten 19-20 mpg since I bought my '89 BII and gave it a maintenance goover.
Try checking the fuel pressure regulator. I had to replace mine not long afetr I got it and that mede Huge differance in my mileage and since then it's been great. I get about 14 mpg riding in the mountains and four-wheeling. Hope this help
