I have a 1986 Bronco II 2.9l v6 4x4 that will not start anymore. It has been in the yard for about a year and would run for about 30 minutes and die and would start up about 40 minutes later. I replaced the fuel pump and engine management relays today and now it wont start at all. I put back in the old relays and it still will not start. When i place the key in the run position i can not hear my fuel pumps running. I can however take the old relay which has no casing on it and manually close the relay and the fuel pumps will come on. I am assuming a loose or broken wire somewhere but as im not a mechanic i would not know where to start looking. I tried jiggling the wiring harness where all the relays are connected and nothing. I also removed the underside of my steering column and jiggled the wiring harness in there and still nothing. I am confused though as im not 100% sure it could be a loose wire as between 2 days ago and today the truck has not moved at all just been ran sitting in the same spot. The only difference was removing and replacing the relays. Any assistance would be appreciated thanks. Also if you have any suggestions on the run for 30-40 minutes and die thing that would be nice to unless of course it was the relays which is what i was told but until i can start the truck i have no way of checking.

I was thinking inertia switch but that's after the fuel pump relay. will it start if you manually hold down your old relay? there is a fuse link at the starter relay (20 GA blue) that suplies power to the fuel pump relay, test the yellow wire for power at relay, if power, fuse link ok

I tried to hold down the relay and start it with a screwdriver (on the solenoid) but it just kept turning over but would never crank i can hear the pumps running..the tank is very low on gas but it has about the same amount as when it ran a week ago cuz i added about a gallon of gas to it (im not going to put much more then that due to it being a waste if it just sits there) i have a blue wire near there but it was connected to the started solenoid at one point before i accidentally broke it off the solenoid so i just connected it straight to the battery (as the post it was on at first went straight to the battery anyway) i will look around for another blue wire and see if i can find another one...what is a safe way to check if it is getting spark? I really don't want to get zapped just to check for spark ha

Put a screwdriver into one of the spark plug wires and hold it about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch from ground, don't touch the shaft.
