Hello, I just installed a new rebuilt 2.9 in my bronco ii. I test started it today and I instantly noticed lots of valve train noise and shut the motor off. I Added another half quart and tried again, same noise, no oil pressure. So I removed the oil filter, it was bone dry so I filled the oilfilter with oil and tried again, nothing.. So my question is where should I start? If there is no oil getting to the filter is it a pump issue? Could the issue be in the heads? Any advise is welcomed! I bought this off someone who had it rebuilt years ago, its been sitting covered in his shop, So there is no warranty.

pull the pan see the the pickup tube is there

pull the distributer and a valve cover then prime the pump with a drill and watch for oil to make it way up to the heads

After running the oil pump with a drill, I did get it to pump oil the the rockers. But when I ran the motor again it was not making any oil pressure again,

Got oil pressure, took forever to prime the pump. I did it wil the drill adaptor.

Next time on the virgin start up, shoot the oil pump full of white grease (assembly lube). Fill the oil filter full of oil. The white grease helps the pump form a vacumn to pull oil up the pick-up tube.

should have ta do that. primimg it with a drill should work. theres something else rong. maybe the crank got turrned 0.10/0.20 and some put standard bearings in it. didnt i say pull the pan

How's the oil pressure at idle (at operating temp) ?
