fuel pump problem?

i have a 1990 b2 and sometimes when accelerating it starts to surge and bog down. it will continue to do this until i shut it off. some times it will even be so bad that the vehicle will die at idle. after i shut it off it is fine for a while, sometimes even weeks. does this sound like a fuel pump problem?

Plugged exhaust???

it has a brand new muffler but i guess the cats could be clogged up. it feels more like a lack of fuel
