I know this site is for bronco II's but I'm looking at this '87 f-150, 4 speed manual, 4x4, 300CI, in line six. first gear is the granny gear, and I was wondering if its normal for it to want to grind putting it into 1st? you have to wait for the tranny or something to completely slow down enough to put it into 1st. My friend said that he barely ever uses 1st in older trucks, esp if they have the granny gear. But I was wondering if thats just how it is or if theres something wrong with the clutch or something?

Yup, 1st is not synchronized, so you will get a grinding noise in it if you are goiong to fast to put it in that gear.
