2x4 to 4x4, what do I need?

I am thinking of converting my 89 B2 2x4 to a 4x4 but I have a few questions. I owned an 87 B2 4x4 but let it go when I bough my 96 Explorer (mistake #1), so I know my way around the systems. However it has been a couple of years now, and the memory is not as clear. Now I own a 89 B2 2x4 and was wondering what I need to turn it into a stock, preferably bolt together, 4x4. I'll get to the extreme stuff later.
Any help would be appreciated, a step by step would be even better.
thanks

well, you will need a 4x4 transfer case, their is a tech writup on the main page on how to put that in. all BII's have a transfer case even 2x4's. the TTB front, make sure you get the same gear ratio as the rear, driveshaft, all the brackets for the front end, and I think you will be on your way. you need to find out what tranny you are running and then make sure you get a front driveshaft from a truck with the same or it might not fit.

Thanks for the info. Here is a Noob question for you, what is a TTB front? Twin Tortion Bar?

I noted from your signature that you reference some numbers (BII 86 locked
8.8 full width
D44 2.9
1354 5spd). I have also seen in other posts the same kind of thin i.e.
7.5 etc. Could you please tell me the significance?

basicly discribing the upgrades he's done. 7.5, 8.8, 9" are all rear ends. 1356 is his transfer case, D44 is his frontend. stock you have a D28 TTB front, 7.5 rear, and 1350 or 1356 transfercase. all BII's came with a v6,unless it was swaped out with something else.

Hey DBrown, not "all" BIIs had a Dummy Tcase. I got a late 90 BII that had a Mazda M50D-R1 without it. I thought it was weird and checked all the codes from the truck. The tranny that was in it came that way.
