my fuel guage quirk
My 87 B 11 The guage works ie it goes from full to empty after filling up at a normal rate. Trouble is when it hits E or I let it get below E,the most I can ever put in is 15-17 gals tops same since I got her at least 30 plus fill ups. Says I have 23 gal tank can float somehow be re-calibrated with respect to the sending unit since it works but about one quarter tank too low ???? anyone run into this unbelieveabley only problem with my truck but driving me nuts thanx in advance ford man 45 yrs
Re: my fuel guage quirk
is the coolant temp and oil pressure gauge working correct? there is a IVR (instrument voltage regulator) behind the cluster that operates these 3. it sound like a sender if the gauges all work correctly

Re: my fuel guage quirk
i put in a triple guage w mechanical tubing for oil amd temp Had to use the old sending units hole and couldnt hook both back up besause either sensor had to be down in block. the mech oil tube could be split I even bought the kit but where I found two places to put this niether had enough room. It was major contorting I got just the line in. besides my 87 B11 has the tach and Ford in all their wisdom decided guage loving people as I am one would now get not one BUT TWO OIL IDIOT LIGHTS INSTEAD .One for low pressure and a flote device in the oil pan that one does work so well that it comes on ,om any steep grade so instead of addressing that they put that fact in the owners manual. They do drive me nuts sometimes.Anyway could two disconnected inputs cause a problem with the cluster thing you mentioned? Temp guage did work methinks.and so I cant adjust the float to sending unit linkage cause gas guage works only shows less. It does go to over F when I fill. Thanks again still a ford man

nope, if it had gauges, not lights, thats a easy way to test the IVR. i changed my temp to physical (which i think is better anyway) cause my temp gauge went out. if you lived here in Ca i would say the crappy gas has messed up your sender. to do it right you have to drop the tank and test it with a resistence tester, which not everyone has. you can stick a test light on the Y/W wire at sender connector at the tank and see if it blinks steady, the tanks aren't that bad to drop when they are low on gas, in your case at least 8 gallons. someone out there may have other thoughts that can help you also cause i have been wrong before. Check body gounds.
Re: my fuel guage quirk
where are the body grounds at? My fule gauge doesn't work at all and I've torn apart the dash numerous times trying to finger all the wires to check for a loose one but have been to no avail......
Re: my fuel guage quirk
back of the left head and hooks to a wiper motor stud. a easy way to check body gound is to take 2 vicegrips and a wire then hook up to the body and gound termimal on battery.
