89' BII. 2.9L w/ factory D28 and 7.5 front and rear ends w/3,73's. How much would I be pushing it with 33" tires? Is the motor gonna be able to churn those tires in 4 low off-road? Eventually I'd like to swap to an 8.8 and D35 from an explorer but for now I have these tires laying around and would like to put them to use. Anyone else wheel with stock running gear and 33"s? If so, how does it do? I know I will prolly be pushing the envelope with them but your oppinions could make or break my plans. Thanks!

i lasted a good while on some 33x12.5x15's. maby 13 months.

my dana28 is still holding up. but i shot the ring gear through the diff cover. so i got the 8.8
and the motor is plenty for it

So the 7.5 rear didnt' hold? I'm also thing about welding the rear... Would this effect its strength? Did you wheel with that set up? Thanks

yeah, it blew. but it wheeled and DD'd just fine untill it blew.
you weld it you will get pretty far. but im thinkin youll blow something sooner than later. if not the ring gear than the axle itself.

if i were you, id weld it and have as much fun as you can, then do the xploder 8.8 swap. its very worth it and it will run up to 35" tires just fine. i got mine from a jy for $80 bucks.

on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being driving down a dirt road, and 10 being climbing a wall) i'd say i wheeled her about a 6.5. and yes they were both open. (now i have a D35 with an Aussie locker, and a welded 8.8 and running 4.88's.)

8.8 swap is really simple, just measure everything correctly and weld it all up nice. dont burn through the axle tube. keep the metal cool and take your time.

swap the perches, your gonna need the shock mounts off of your 7.5 axle and weld them on accordingly.

it is an easy swap. but take your time, mine lasted 3 days, but it look slike it came factory. some others... not so much. it all depends on what your aiming for

I know this post is fairly old but I'm gonna put in my 2 cents. I had 33" boggers on a stock D28 and 7.5 and lasted me all of about half an afternoon of hard wheeling. Did the Explorer swap, running 35" boggers and havent had a single issue.

Lucky for me, I decided to run a set of 31" with the stock set up and am currently aquiring a D30 for the front (going to sas with leaf) and a 8.5 rear with a 302 and C4.I don't plan on running over a 33" tire with that setup. Thanks for the "2 cents"!
