First you need to start at the basics!!
The first thing I would do is scan the computer for codes?
I am assuming you have a 2.9
After you retrieve the codes get a Book and set down with a couple a beers and READ THE BOOK.
It will tell you what to do and my 10 year old grandson understands "Get the book and read"

I am not singling out anyone here but I am trying to make a point!

My point is that even the most seasoned mechanic can't listen to a random symptom and say replace this or that without more information. To even start to help you I got to know more! You need to do some basic basic troubleshooting! You need to give information to get information.

If you had started by saying I have a 1986 B2 with a 2.9 or whatever and it runs like crap blah blah (when cold? when warm?) and I have scanned the codes and this is what I found. Code=Example1 Code=Example2 I also noted the engine going put put put. This is the kind of stuff we need to know to help you.

Just off the top of my head I can think of a half a dozen reasons you could get popping back in the intake. Could be broken valve spring. Could be a bum lifter. Could be moisture in the distributor cam. Could be a crappy plug or wire. Could be a dirty fuel injector. See what I mean?

If you go get the info, we can help help you and probably save you from throwing a bunch of parts in you don't need. Go to your local auto zone and have them do a code scan and get back to us.

Have great day,
The Grumpy old man
