oil pressure rising slightly

I've noticed that my oil pressure guage needle is now at the "MA" in NORMAL

it has been rising slightly eversince i bought it - the previous owners said they hadn't driven it for about 2 months when the brakes went. ( i bought it and fixed that)

i'm curious as to what could cause the pressure to rise? Especially since it seems I have an oil leak around the valve cover.

can the pressure rise due to the oil not draining properly from the top end down those drain holes so the oil can get back to the pan/pump? That's what I've found out about the leak around the valve cover...if the oil can't drain properly, the oil will soak the gasket and push out around the valve cover.

thoughts?

ok so my oil needle is now all the way to L in NORMAL. It goes down slightly as I drive - but then goes back up the longer I sit idling. Getting kind of worried because I know too much oil isn't a good thing either.

Is it measuring the oil level/pressure throughout everywhere or just in the oil pan?

my guess is the oil pressure sending unit is faulty. try hooking up a mechanical oil PSI guage. or if you know how, test the sending unit with a multi meter - checking resistance while off and with engine running. I dunno the specific range it should be so you may need to call around to a dealer ship or look in a repair manual.

Can't speak for factory ranges but I've always followed the 10psi per 1000rpm.
