c5 shifter will only shift from park to reverse to neutral.

My 84 bronco II shifter will only shift between park, reverse, and neutral. The shifter feels like it is hitting a solid stop! Will not move into "D".
The linkage is fine. Feels internal to the transmission (12k miles only on transmission). Thoughts?

All of a sudden! Transmission has 12K miles on it. I hauled the BII home today on a car hauler. At least I could back off the trailer! Any thoughts?

any warrenty on it?? disconnect the shifter from the tranny and shift it manually.if that dont work ya gotta pull the pan

That will be my next step. I'm leaving on military leave tomorrow for two weeks. Will be my next project when I return. I'll post what I find out! And no, approx 53 miles past warranty on the transmission! Third vehicle so not used much! Mostly hunting and fishing!
