Hissing noise coming from break pedal

My breaks have all but quit stopping the B2. At first I thought it was due to fluid levels - but on checking, the levels look ok although the fluid is turning black...

As I was driving home today, I noticed that when I when I braked (while the engine was running) there is an audible hiss sound coming from the area of the pedal. As soon as I stop the engine, the hiss gets louder for a second, then stops completely as the pedal suddenly feels strong again (if that makes sense).

Would anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Sounds to me like a ruptured power brake diaphragm. The engine vacuum is routed to the brake booster to give you power brakes. If you hear hissing then it is leaking. replace the booster!

given the state of my break pipes - Im very doubtful that they would survive being disconnected. Ive also got a broken bleed nipple on the back passenger wheel - so Im guessing that would need fixed too.

All in all, Im feeling this might be the end of the road for my B2 as I lack the time and resources to repair it :frown:
