Bought a "New" truck and it STALLED.....Please help

Just bought a 1989 Ford Ranger w/ a 4 cylinder, 2.3 L, EFI engine.
Got it about 1/8 of the way home and it stalled.
It seemed like something in the passenger-side was kicking alot. It slowly lost power as it was being driven, but would then suddenly go normal.
Decided that maybe it just had bad gas that could be washed out with premium gas (since it had been sitting a while before it was sold). Put premium in it and started, but then stalled. Now it doesn't start, but it turns when the ignition is triggered.
Looked under the hood and discovered it was spitting something on the driver's side {Oil?} (closest to the driver).
Changed the spark plugs (they really needed it too), but it still just turns.
Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be?
