Starter wont engage flywheel

when i first bought the bonco II the starter worked fine but once that starter went bad and i replaced it it wont ingage the flywheel, the flywheel is fine no chips and ive replaced the solinoid, the sarter just wont work correctly this has been happening on and off for about 3 years any suggestions?

it is a new one this is like the 4th new starter this year

what year is your rig and what tranny??? is there a spacer inbetween the block and the bellhousing

its an 84 with a 5 speed manuel no i dont think tgheres a spacer

well it sposta be there,all ford engines have them. its a shim for the starter..

it didnt work it still wont engage the fly wheel and theres no chips or teeth missing on the flywheel either

u know what i have replaced that relay cable from the solinoid to the starter, right around the time i changed the starter when the problems started happening maybe that could be it and i dont want to sell it i just dont have a job right now and to get a job i kinda need a car that runs to be able to get me there u know

check the trans code
