under dash leak

Post by djadjective »

I seem to have gotten this problem that when it rains a lot of water ends up in my truck. After a storm and as soon as I get my truck moving about a quart or water pours out onto the floor from under the passenger dash. the only thing I can think of is that my ventilation duct in front of the windshield must be filling with water and emptying through the floor vent on the passenger side. Is there a drainage hole that could be clogged in my ventilation duct? cause when i look down into it, I can see about a 1/2" of water sitting there. Its not too much of an issue since i dont have any carpet, just bedliner and drain plugs, but its just annoying.

Yep, you're right on the money. There is a drain within the vent duct. You may have to pull your blower motor and/or your heater core to get to it. After you unplug it, clean out the duct as much as you can because mold and gunk grow in that standing water and can clog it back up again.

I removed the blower motor and after cutting through some of the mesh behind it, I removed what seemed like a few pounds of black wet compost, leaves, and sticks. Then I found a drain port to the right of the blower motor housing and used some wire to clean that up. Not sure if it will work yet, after a week of rain now it seems like we wont have any for a while. Does anyone know the purpose of the trap door with a spoonge filter on it that is behind the blower motor and leads to under the dash?

I'm pretty sure you're looking at the doors that open and close for the different air flow for defrost, heat, vent etc. The sponge is to help keep it quiet.
