Well, I've been having issues with my unsignificant other so I had little time to be working on the b2. Today I worked on it for the first time in weeks. I finally had the chance to wire in my electric fan. This is where it starts, or not.... Upon completion of my wiring (wired off pos. side of battery through switch w/ inline fuse) I flipped the switch to check operation. I had nothing. I knew my wiring wasn't wrong, the only thing I could think of was my battery was dead. Without checking the voltage I ran to my daily driver and hooked up the jumper cables. Flipped the switch and it was operating. Now, I tried to start it up. It turned over but wouldn't start. After several attempts I disconnected them and pulled the battery, had the charger ready to go, checked voltage... 12V. Now I'm kind of getting confused. I threw the battery back in go to start it and it did a loud knocking noise almost like the starter was going bad, but it turned over with the jumpers hooked up, is this because I pretty much had to fully charged batteries cranking it? Now my battery is down to 9v and my dash lights barely come on. Another question, the pos. on the battery goes into a small module on the inside of the right fender. I have 12v going in but under no condition do I have 12v coming back out.

-no power when testing fan switch... NOTHING
-hooked up jumpers - fan works, turns over, now have power all around
-remove jumpers - still have power, loud knocking noise when trying to start

I did have the covers off the steering wheel column to see if i could route the wires through there but decided to go a different way. Possibly knocked something??

I'm wheeling Thurs-Sat next week.

If needed I have junkyard time for tomorrow evening, I'm finishing my wristed arm in the morning, then I work Sun-Weds, with no time for a yard run but time for truobleshooting, then another possible yard run on Thursday.

I think I'd start by having the battery load tested. Should be free at most autoparts stores. Also make sure your grounds are good. Electric fans should run though a relay, as a switch probably can't carry enough current.

The small module on your fender sounds like your starter solenoid. The only time it will have voltage out is while cranking.

I'll look into wiring my fan through a relay. The battery is brand new and I do not get 12v going out of the start solenod while cranking.

first the battery,,, it should read about 14 volts fully charged. a bad battery will show 12-14v but will not have the amps to take a load, so like nobody said take it in and have it checked.

second- the module on the right side is your start relay and to crank a car the ignition circuit pulls 12v off of the "i" stud on the start relay. if no power to the i side then no power to open the relay to send juice to teh starter.

and buddy i feel for ya having wife problems, nothing worse than coming home and being misserable. been there done that, and thank god got through it without killing her.

The starter relay was bad. It starts and runs now. I didn't drive it yet, but since removing the mechanical fan and a/c it revs smoother and quicker so I'm eager to try it out this weekend. I completed my wristed arm today, however I have to leave it pinned as I never had the time to build the shock towers. I'm finally picking up my EB grille on Weds. It's really starting to come together now.

As far as the wife problem goes, well, I'm not sure what is going to become of it but she moved out this past week. It's been a rough year, but its been going downhill for a while and I think this will be a good move for each of us. We tried to make it work but no matter what neither of us is happy.
