Fuel Filter Issues (Black cartirdge filter)
I have recently bought a Bronco II 88 (it has an 87 setup) however it has the fuel rail cartridge filter inside the Black Housing. The problem I am having is that I have replaced the filter. Not a problem. I have replaced the gasket for the housing. Now, I can't get it to stop leaking around the threads. I have replaced with another new gasket on 3 occasions and still leaks. Is there a way I can replace the cartridge filter with a regular inline filter? There are 4 lines to the cartridge housing so would that mean I need to have 2 inline filters? Is there anything else that can be done to make this problems go away?

im not framiliar with a cartridge filter on a broncoii mine had a inline filter on the frame rail near the trans, it also had a black canister about a foot forward of the fuel tank but that is more of a fuel accumulator, but i am learning something new everyday, so thanks for the info.borderpatrol wrote:I have recently bought a Bronco II 88 (it has an 87 setup) however it has the fuel rail cartridge filter inside the Black Housing. but to answer your question, does it have the same fuel line fittings as the high pressure pump? if it does then yea you can do it but like i said it also acts like a accumulator, the low pressure fuel pump fills it and it makes sure the high pressure pump doesn't cavitate by running out of fuel. that is why it has 4 fittings low pressure from the tank to the accumulator to for supply, and of course the out to the pump, and the other line is the return fuel the engine didn't use and it also fills the accumulator and excess from this is then sent to the tank, so removing something like that MAY mess up the fuel flow. and i stress may, because it MAY work perfect without it also. on the early broncos that go efi the guys put in a inline fuel filter housing and replacable filter and this acts as a accumulator. i think the regular filters are too small to handle this task. check out www.bcbroncos.com for the filter set up im talking about. let me know how it does if you do replace it with a regular filter.
