Which is better a rebuilt or remanufactured carb?

Well she failed the emissions test today. My 84 BII failed on the idle & high speed Hydrocarbons and the Idle & High speed Carbon Monoxide.

the tech thought because too much fuel is dumping in the system.

I am still having my flooding problem when it gets warm so I thought time to replace the carb as I can see places where fuel seems to be spilling and etc...

Well I found a place that will rebuild my carb and if I can't get it to run right they will adjust if free of charge for around $165 and 90 day warranty. (i get to take my carb in and get my carb back)

I am also researching the parts stores which sell a remanufactured holley for anywhere from $300 and up with 90 day warranty.

What do others think?

im not a carb guy and never have been, but if i was to buy one i would 100% without a doubt go with the guy local so that you can have him tune it if needed. plus you support local business. carbs are really easy to rebuild and cheap too but its the bench tuning of the carb that is what gets most people. all this is just my opinion

Vabronconut thanks for the reply,

I am still going to leave the fuel line insulated as she runs better, hopefully with a good functioning carb she will run awesome. :D

MrD I would definitely, definitely say go with having it rebuilt by your local carb guy. I've been through multiple carb problems with different vehicles over the years, Ford and GM alike. When problems arose I always went with the rebuild based on the advice of my uncles(all mechanics), who said a carb rebuilt by hand was a much better choice in the long run than the reman's in a box from the parts store. I took their advice and in the rare occasion I had a problem(once in three rebuilds) the guy took care of it. My cousin on the other hand, went the boxed reman route and ended up having to swap out the same carb THREE times.

Good luck!

I've always just rebuilt my carbs myself and have never had any trouble except for the first one but that was my first one.
