TFI Module replacement

Hello,
I have an 88 Bronco II 2.9 that lately has been dying in the heat after driving it 20-30 minutes. After searching around online I saw that most people suggest trying to replace the TFI Module and so I'm going to give that a try. However, how exactly are you supposed to get the distributor out on this year? As its located in the back center and underneath things that make it difficult to take off. The chilton manual doesn't give much help so I figured I would ask on here...
Thanks,
Jacob

Actually I was just looking at it and since the module is mounted on the side of the distributor, do you even have to take the distributor apart to get to the module? The chilton manual made it seem like you did, so I'm not too sure...

it has two screws one at each opposite corner then the module has three prongs facing the top of the disributor so push down on the tfi when it is unbolted. before reinstalling it take scotch bright pad to mounting surface and clean real good. then apply a electrical enhancer jelly to the mounting surface. great contact between the module and distbutor is critical.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply, I was finally able to get it off and the new one on last saturday. However I didn't clean the mounting surface... After replacing it, I drove later that day and the bronco did the same thing, it started sputtering and then just died.
Someone I know said the fuel pump in the gas tank is probably bad, is that the next step I should take? Or could it be because I didn't clean the mounting surface for the module?
I have already changed the fuel filter as well...
Thanks for all the help

just so the thing can be eliminated from the list of possibilities yes take it back off and clean it and put the electrical contact enhancer on it. when i tore my bronco down for my build i thought my gas tank looked real good, then i dropped it from the frame and found it was completly rotted out along the front edge on top where it butts up against the frame, it had about a inch of crap in the bottom of the tank too. its not hard to pull the sending unit/pump out, you just have to buy a new seal from autozone. pull the unit and check the pump inlet screen for debris. this deal will cost you a hole $2 so no big deal and it will eliminate allot of stuff- rotted tank, clogged screen, bad pump.
