My Bronco II jumps out of gear when going slowly up a hill

Twice recently when I had my 1988 Bronco II in 4 wheel drive, and both times it was also in 4-low. and I was creeping slowly up a fairly steep grade, it has jumped out of gear as if it were put in neutral. After rolling back down the hill, I had to put in in park and back into drive before it would engage again. Can someone tell me what is happening?

It is an automatic and it makes no noise when it does this

I know this has been a problem for some of us with manuals, and the shift level for the T-case has to be adjusted. Maybe the same thing for the autos? Just a thought.

The A4LD is a picky transmission. If the fluid level is not right at the full mark when you go up a steep hill the fluid runs to the back of the transmission. When that happens the trans oil pick up will suck air and soon you don,t go anywhere. This is especially true if you have any dents in the transmission pan.
