I'll start my 89 B2 one time and it runs perfectly smooth, Then the next time it starts ticking and looses a lot of power. I cant figure it out. I thought it was the valves but then I heard the tic coming from the catalitic converter. I might just cut them off . What do you guys think?

It probably is the valves. 2.9L's are notorious for sticky lifters. I'd recommend keeping the cat.

i had the same problem but it wen away all on its own but to fix it you have to pull the cover and find the lifter that is sticking

I pulled the cover off and there was no sticky lifter. Someone told me it could be the cam bearings not letting enough oil get to the valves?
