ive got a 90 b2, 2.9 and auto trans. lately ill be driving along and all the sudden the engine starts missing and loses powers and it gets worse and worse until it finally wont move down the road, but if i pull over, turn it off and then back on it will run fine for a few more miles then start doing the same thing again. i have changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor and the problem still remains. any ideas on what is causeing this? thanks

sounds like the ign. mod. on the side of the distributor. pull it iff and take it to auto zone. they will test it for free. make sure they test it more then once sometimes they have to warm up before it will show bad.

so changing that thing is easier said than done, i was going to if possible try and change it without removing the distributor, but i ran into problems. from what i can see the bolts holding the module on are hex head, but i cant seem to find a socket or anything for that matter that will fit into the recessed area where the head of the bolt is. any ideas?

Your local auto parts store should carry a TFI wrench for a couple bucks.

If you mark the distributor at the base, you should be able to loosen it up and spin it for better access. Then return it to the marked position. However I'd recommend throwing a light on it anyway.

You can use a regular socket, but it needs to be a thin wall....I think 5.5mm.

well i just changed the computer in it also and that still has no effect. i think it is something electrical because if i turn it off then back on it fixes itself temporarly like it is reseting itself, any ideas?

take your truck to autozone and have them pull codes. they do this for free and it generaly points you in the right direction.

until this is done you are realy just shooting in the dark....

If I remember correctly, my '89 was doing almost the same thing. Ended up being the O2 sensor..
