oil pump screen

why are the oil pump screens so expensive. I've never seen one. should I be able to use my old one when I rebuild my motor(84 2.8)

If you clean the screen thoroughly and it doesn't have any wholes in it, you should be able to reuse it. Make sure it is not plugged up.

Thats what I was hoping. I would have to special order it also. My wife's car thru a rod bearing when she kept putting off her oil changes for so long that the screen got plugged up with crud. she doesn't wait anymore!!
