I've got a set of gears (4.56) for my BII and the rear is welded. Once installed, I should still be able to drive it on the freeway and such, right? It won't tear anything up?

I've currently got the diffs open with the front taken out except I can't get the pinion? part out, any advice (this is my first gear exchange)!

Also, if anyone lives in Maryland, please let yourself be known!

Thanks,

Joby

I ran a welded rear for many years. It's going to be very hard on tires. Otherwise it's road manners will be great. Totally predictable. You do need to adjust your driving habbits accordingly though. In wet pavement, loose dirt, snow and ice, you know the rear end will come break loose, but it will also hook up far better than the one wheel peel. Once you learn how to drive it, you won't want anything else. Except an ARB so you can turn it off and save your tires.

As for the pinion... once you remove the carrier assembly and the yoke, you should be able to tap it out with a rubber mallot. If you are installing the gears yourself, make sure you've done your research.
