I just put new heads on my '88 2.9 and decided to add gauges to keep from having to do it again. Three questions for those who have done this before.

1 – Oil pressure gauge. Where is the existing OIL light connection on the engine? Is there any reason to go with the “T” and hook the new gauge up AND the existing light? The instructions say you can buy the T at an auto parts store if you want both hooked up but it doesn’t say why it’s a preferred idea? Is there a need for a light if you have a gauge to monitor the pressure?

2 – Temp gauge. Where on the manifold is the temp sensor on a 2.9?

The reason for the gauge is to monitor the oil pressure while driving. If you get the engine warmer than normal while vehicle is under load, the oil pressure will drop off. This is a good indication that the cooling system isn't working properly and you could lose a motor.

The light would be good for initial start up. If it doesn't turn off quickly then there could be probelms.

Use the T

Find a plug hole in the head or the block even that goes to the water jacket. The intake isn't very big not alot of space. Typically the sending unit is it the water neck.

Watch the gauges and learn what normal for the engine and you will get alot of life out of it.
