is there a way to extend the tranfer case shifter so I dont have to bend over as much to shift it when offroading. Thats one thing I really like about the Scout is the transfer case and transmission shifters were almost even. Would a shifter from a scout work in a BII?

Sure is ... I extended mine 3" after I did a 3" body lift and the lever ball-end barely stuck up thru the rubber floor boot.

IIRC, it's a three piece assembly. 1) The shift mechanism which attaches to the side of the transfer case. It includes a very short shifter shaft as part of it. 2) A stub shaft,(about 3" long), that is a press fit onto the end of the shift mechanisms short shaft. This acts as a shaft extender. And, 3) the ball itself which in typical fashion attaches to the extension shaft end by a snug press fit over the splined shaft end. If you pull the ball off ,(takes some force), the splines are exposed. You could make an extension piece there.

I however, needed to extend mine at the shift mechanism/extension shaft joint because of clearance problems created from the body lift I did.

For you, just pulling the ball off and making a extension shaft would be easy. I think I used a 3/8" pipe nipple and drilled out one end (about 1" deep), to fit over the shaft end. ( I epoxied it on). The other end of the pipe nipple was drilled to accept a 1/2" bolt, ( I think), of whatever length you wish. Then epoxy the ball onto the bolt.
