its wider which makes the headers hit the steering colum. I want to change my 5.0 for the 5.8 now that i have hydrolic steering and it wont effect me now.

I know this may have been brought up many times but is it REALLY worth it to go to a 5.0 vs a 4.0 built.

YES, way more options and more heavy duty stuff you can put behind it.

What about emissons? I still would have to do that, doeas anyone have a 5.0 in washington? Are you able to pass or did someone get a special permit to have the 5.0? Other than that I'm good to go!

I know here in CA you need the same year or newer and all the smog stuff that came off the car you pulled the motor out of. Then you see a smog rep and then your good to go.

CA is pretty strict about smog crap so maybe WA is a little lighter on that area?

probably a little easier. I would call a smog rep to get the down low on the swap.

I believe it's the same rules in WA. Your engine needs to be the same year or newer, and you need to swap all the emissions equipment over with the engine.
And yes, I'd say it's worth it, but ultimately it really depends on what you want out of your bronco II.

I believe it is against the law to modify your vehicle from the original spec that it came from the factory. (in the state of WA) A big emission no no. That being said, most of the time they will not inspect under the hood if you do pass. If you don't they will look and the harassment begins. I have not heard of anyone being sited for the mods but a guy I work with is being harassed cause he ran a big cam and carb and all of the other HP do dads which caused it not to pass. Never the less they told him to change it back before he can get tabs.

well yeah if you change the cam and then have it not pass smog. The thing is when you change a motor you up your smog rating to the motor the it came out of. I would call a smog rep to get the exact info.
