Axle Swap

Post by allen_the_music_man »

Hey guys I'm looking to give my '88 Bronco II a nice 6" suspension lift. I would like to know of anyone who has a 6" suspension lift and what size tires and the name of the axles you swapped.

Also, were the axles you swapped with bolt in or did you have to drill, weld, or modify some other way? I really want to swap to an axle that will bolt straight up in without any modification.

Also I realize that if I swap my rear axle to a lower ratio for my larger tires, I will need to swap my front axle with an axle of the SAME ratio, correct? But what about spline count? Will the spline counts always be the same for every axle of the same ratio, or are there different number of splines in the same kind of axle? This is confusing me here with this spline count thingy...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

pretty much any axlw swap will involve cutting, drilling or welding unless you swap stock for stock.
Your gear ratio has to be that same front and rear. If not you will F,up your transfer case.
Most different types of axles have different spline counts. Usually the more the better for strength reasons. As long as your splines #'s on your axle shafts match the spline #'s in your differental they will fit in one another.
