motor swap to 4.o
motor swap to 4.o
im trying to find some info on motor swapping a 4.0 Litre v-6 into my 89 Bronco II 4x4 it currently has the stock 2.9 Litre with 200,000 miles on it. it has the 5 speed and everything on it is completely stock at the moment.... but i wan to do some upgrades to it, i was just wondering since its my daily driven vehicle at the moment, if the 4.0 will bolt in without all the modifications that the 302 requires.... i dont really want to cut the frame and i dont want the vehicle down for a long period of time to make the engine swap.... i possess the abilities to do the electrical rewiring, that could be required because i understand it will require the plugs at least form the 4.0 and probably the entire wiring harness instead but my main concern is the mechanical portions.... will it bolt in or is there going to be several modifications needed like the oil filter and stuff requires on the 302.
running rough
the 2.9 litre in mine was running really rough when i bought it and it had a ...(cracked)... exhaust manifold was leaking bad, replaced it then it started running fine for coupkle weeks, then went to do tune up all the pluges were loose, changed and tightened and set the gap to .044 which specs says .042 - .046 on the sticker on it, and i did each plug one at a time plug then wire, never having off more than one at a time, but i was wondering why aftyer i tightened them the timing jumped 40 degrees.... anyone got any ideas on it.... i had to take every plug off the distrubutor and move them one hole on the cap one at a time to get enough difference to time it out right.... it ran really goof for about 2 weeks before i put the new plugs in and tightened them down.... i also know i caould pull any 2 vacuum lines off the intake fvor the fuel injection system and it got rid of the miss but idled really high then.... but the truck alwasy had power in high end of the rpms..... but none in lower end after the plug and wire change.... as i said there is no wasy i switched them on the distributor before........that thought is impossible..... any other ideas would be appreciated on what to check as i now have it running ok again and want to keep it that way till i can do a motor swap to something else, time and money taking presedence at the moment....
the best thing I can tell you is to read the info we have on the main page about the 4.0L swap. there is no cutting of the frame it is a direct bolt in with wiring mod's.
