I Just got my 4.0 in and is ready to start but I cant get it to turn over. The solenoid just makes one big "Thump" or "click" noise. Did I wire something wrong. How do I fix this?

I assume you have lots of power at the batt? If not thats your problem.
But if you did a swap than I am sure you would have checked that

check all electrical connections from bat to start sylinoid and from there to starter and then check all grounds

One obvious question would be, Have you tried turning the engine by hand? Could be something mis aligned not lettin the engine turn over?

I am fairly sure everything is connected and I know the battery has charge because I charged it yesterday and it has 12.4 volts. I pulled out the starter to see if it was hitting but the solenoid still just clicked. I went through the wires from starter to battery and everything looks good and even got out the wiring diagram to make sure everything is right. And I "tapped" on the starter with a hammer and still the same thing. This happen to anyone else?

if was clicking with starter out then jump the starter syliniod with the key ON is this starts it you will need a sylinoid if not then a starter

But the starter worked when I pulled it out. Can it just go bad in 2 weeks from sitting?

just becuase the starter worked when pulld out does not mean its strong enough to turn over the engine try to turn the engine over by hand using a socket and 1/2 drive on the harmonic balencer and if it will not turn then you have something internal preventing it if it does turn replace the starter

Just in case make sure the neutral start on the tranny is hooked up

if you are still useing the federwell solenoid you may have missed a wire

Image
see the wire from the battery lead post to the starter solenoid post?
if you did not do that then that could explain it!

what starter are you using? what starter did your old engine use? This info would be helpful to point you to the problem.
