I'm trying to swap a 5.0 into an 85 B2. Any way my question is what would be the best tranny/transfer case combo to put in. The motor is an 94 5.0 HO out of a mustang.I would like to get a tranny/t-case without having to get adapters or modifying my driveshafts if possible.

As far as I know, any swap would require driveshaft modification. I think there is a company that makes an adapter to let you bolt the engine to your existing transmission/tcase, but for some reason, I doubt they will hold up to the abuse/torque.

do you want an auto or manual? there are lots of 4x4 trannies to choose from.

I want to keep it a manual tranny since my truck is already setup for that. I was thinking about getting a tranny/tcase from a 90's F-150 that had a 5.0. Would that fit good?

I would also like to keep the hydraulic clutch setup so I dont have to change my pedals

I think that the main problem will be the fitment of the transfer case. Some of those FS Tcases are wide.

There really isn't a good stock tranny/transfer combo. As mentioned the transfer case that came in new pickups is very large, NP208 I think. I think someone here has made it work with notching their frame.
NP435/NP205 is a good choice, but it's a tight fit and the 205 is heavy and has a poor low range.
Really the only stock combo that is would work well is the C4/Dana 20 found in Early Broncos.
I'd suggest picking the tranny and transfer case that you like, then biting the bullet and buying the adapter.
Driveshaft mods are guaranteed. I just get driveshafts out of the junkyard and have them cut to fit.

as far as tranny options I will always pick the NP435 for a manual. first gear is great and they are bullet proof. as for transfer case options...if you can find a D20 and can put up the cash for the adaptor then I would go that rought, but if the budget is tight the 205 is what I would use. again it is bullet proof and found just about everywhere. I used the np435/205 in my BII and loved it. I still have them and a 302 sitting in the shop waiting for me to get another project going if that tells you anything.

Does the Np435 bolt up with the 205 or am i going to need an adapter. If so, what vehicles can I find these in. Are they common or am i going to have to dig for them

I got my NP435/205 out of a 79 bronco. it was stock. look for 70's model F100's they are the easy pick's. just make sure you get one with 4low. some D21's are in there and the are only 2hi and 4hi transfer cases. also make sure you bring a friend to load them up...I have installed them with out a jack and they are heavy!
