clicking/tapping noise when using 4wd

When I'm using 4 wheel drive I notice a steady clicking noise only when I'm moving. It sounds like it's coming from the transfer case or possibly the front end. Is this normal? The previous owner said it was just the chain.

Should I be hearing anything different when using 4wd?

Thanks.

this is not normal

do you have an aftermarket temp gauge if so check the wire route i had this on mine where in 4wd i heard clicking and was just temp wire hittin drive shaft

if thats not your problem i would check out the u joints in the front drive shaft they might be bad

The U-joints could be bad int the front driveline or the axle shafts. Usually dry u-joints will talk to you before they go. A chain will make periotic slapping noises not consistent clicking noises. Also I have had worn out stock hubs make the clicking noise.
