I got my license in 1976 when I was 17 and paid 64 cents for regular. When I was 5 my dad ran a gas station that was having a gas war with the station across the street. Both got down to 10 cents a gallon! This was in 1964. Try to tell us USA folks that these petroleum whores can't make a decent profit and the price at the pump be half of what it is!

I started driving in 1990. Gas was under a buck quite a bit. I think I have a pic from the 1999 time frame of gas at .85 cents at a Chevron in town. I remember gas got really cheap for a bit then shot up.
In defense of the petro whores, the tax whores aren't holding any blows.
I'm fighting back. I got me a 40+ mpg Jetta. Been running almost strictly B20 Bio diesel since I bought it. The largest Bio Diesel in the country is going to be in Washington state. I'm looking forward to competition in my area.

When I got my license, Regular ran about 28 to 30 cents.

When there was a gas war I could get it for 26 cents.

Oh that is in Gallons.

Dang, without telling how old I am,,, .18 gallon for reg, .22 for super. Diesel was .12 gallon. When i started trucking in 78 Diesel was .56 gallon and everyone was crying the blues about not making any money. Freight rates are about the same today and fuel is 5 times as high. Remember that next time abig truck wants out from behind a slower vehicle or is going faster down a hill than you. Without these guys working for 1/5 of what we made in 1978 you would have to walk to the manufacturer for your supplies.

I started driving before I was legal. Does that count?
I got my liscense in 1985. I think I remember gas around $.86. I'll never forget getting rid of my Mustang II that I totally rebuilt in 1989. I could drive two weeks on 12 gallons. Traded it for a 77 T-bird with a 400 and a 33gal fuel tank. Two weeks later The first gulf war broke out and gas went to $1.50. Ouch that hurt!!!

I started driving in 1998 and gas was around $1.25 or so but I remember putting a sign up at the station I worked at for $1.15 thats the cheapest I recall paying. Right now its about $2.30 around here (Gresham, OR) but hey gas is cheap! When its $5-6 a gallon we are gonna wish it was only $2-3

your funny, something else you might be interested in, i passed my test in a 40 chev. coupe, and also they didn't have DUI's in those days either, they used to write on your ticket HBD (had been drinking) or if you were to drunk they would give you a ride home or they would just take you into custody to sleep it off unless of course there had been a serious injury accident.

Hi Steve G,
Was that before during or after the War? My Father was in the Philippines during that big fracas...
